The Ottawa Senators were able to collect two of a possible four points over the course of their first back to back series of the 2024-2025 NHL regular season.

OTT G10 @ New York Rangers — Igor Is All-IN for His Raise

Ottawa dropped the Friday evening contest against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, by the final score of 2-1 in regulation.

Period I

Artemi Panarin continues his production for the Blue Shirts with the opening goal 3 minutes and 3 seconds into the gameplay. The Russian star is at seven goals on the season with this wrister from the recently extended Alexis Lafreniere.

Sam Carrick got the only minor of the period for the Blue Shirts.

Rangers outshoot Sens 9-8

Period II

No goal scoring. Sens pummel Igor Shesterkin with 13 shots in the second while Ottawa only allows 4 from New York.

Amadio is the only Senators’ skater with a penalty through 40; Rangers add 3 more infractions.

Period III

Lafreniere capitalized on the Norris mishap for the power play redirection goal. The 2-0 lead for the home team led to the Laf’s fifth of the regular season with the assists going to Filip
Chytil and Reilly Smith.

Adam Gaudette broke the Rangers’ shutout hopes with his fifth of the year from captain Brady Tkachuk and alternate captain Thomas Chabot.

Ottawa threw a shot a minute on the Rangers’ net; New York could only muster one every 4 minutes.

Goaltenders

Igor Shesterkin managed to successfully shell away 40 of 41 visiting shots faced for a 0.976 save percentage.

Linus Ullmark saved 16 of 18 home team shots against for a 0.889 save percentage.

Players to Watch

Artemi Panarin had his first goal in 13 days (4 games) against Ottawa. HIs 272nd career goal put him 3 points away from 800. He played 18:18 on the sheet of home ice.

Drake Batherson had his point streak snap. He was invisible and a minus player for the road team. Batherson had goose eggs everywhere besides the dash column (-1) and the giveaways (2).

2. Brady Tkachuk — primary assist (8), +1, 5 hits, 4SOG
3. Thomas Chabot — secondar assist (5), +1, 26:49TOI, 2 SOG

OTT G11 v Seattle Kraken — Forsberg Second Shutout

Senators’ home games continue to be red hot, as the Saturday night battle wound up being one sided, with a 3-0 shutout for the Sens over the Kraken.

Period I

Adam Gaudette backhanded in the opening goal for the game to continue his goal scoring bender. All six goals this season, including this one, have came in his last five games in a row. Nick Cousins got his third point with the Sens with the primary assist. Zach MacEwen tied his point production from last season with 2 goals and the secondary assist from the Gaudette goal in 20 less games.

Period II

Brady Tkachuk extended the home team lead with his seventh goal of the campaign. Jacob Bernard-Docker had the primary assist. Tim Stützle had the secondary assist, his 10th apple of the year.

Period III

Tim Stützle hit the empty net for his sixth goal of the season from Mike Amadio.

Goaltenders

Phillip Grubauer stopped 20 of 22 shots from Ottawa for a 0.909 save percentage.

Anton Forsberg stopped all 22 shot attempts against the Kraken. This is the Calder Cup winner’s second shutout of the season.


Players to Watch

Jordan Eberle was a -2 with one shot on net in 17:17TOI.

Brady Tkachuk recorded his 169th career goal against the Kraken. The captain was a +2 with 2 shots and 7 hits in 16:27TOI.

Next Game:

On the road at KeyBank Center against Lindy Ruff and the Buffalo Sabres in New York for their first meeting of four. Game is on MSG-B in the States, and RDS2 and TSN5 in Canada.

Forward Zack Ostapchuk has been recalled from Belleville. The rookie has a helper in three games with the Big Sens, and 4 points with the Baby Sens. It was a paper move. He is still expected to be between Noah Gregor and Mike Amadio tomorrow.
