Coming off a 3-2 win to open the series, the Carolina Hurricanes face the New York Rangers today in Game 2 of the qualifying round.

I’d expect the lineups to be the similar to what we saw in Game 1, though the Rangers will be without Jesper Fast. We also don’t know whether or not Igor Shesterkin will be healthy enough to play this time around either, but based on Henrik Lundqvist’s performance on Saturday and his track record against Carolina, even if it’s not Shesterkin in net, the Hurricanes are going to have to work for their goals.

One interesting development was seeing Morgan Geekie get into the lineup over Ryan Dzingel. It makes sense, considering Dzingel isn’t the ideal player to be playing on the fourth line. I’d imagine we’ll see Geekie back in the lineup again today.

A key for Carolina will be continuing to keep shots to the perimeter and limiting chances for the likes of Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad, who weren’t able to get anything going in Game 1. The Hurricanes didn’t allow the Rangers a solid chance until well into the second period and while Petr Mrazek probably isn’t going to steal you a game, he’s certainly good enough to stop long-range shots that he can see.

Puck drop is at noon.
