And the retooling continues for the Devils. Today the team announced the hiring of Mark Recchi as an assistant coach.

Who doesn't know Mark Recchi and his resume;
-22 Year NHL playing career included stops in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Montreal, Carolina, Atlanta, Tampa and Boston
-3 Time Stanley Cup Champion
-2 Time Gold Olympic Medalist
-7 Time All-Star including an All-Star MVP honor in 1997's game
-Penguins Assistant Coach

That is a lot of experience he brings behind the bench for New Jersey joining Lindy Ruff. This hiring, in my opinion, is a home run and a pleasant surprise. I have always looked at Mark Recchi as the prototypical Old School Devil mode that Lou Lamoriello loves. And that will prove great for the Devils players.

This was echoed by Tom Fitzgerald
"His work with the power play and managing personnel in Pittsburgh are skills that will benefit our group moving forward. Mark's leadership, communication abilities, patience, and presence will be integral for the growth of our young core."

I think this is a great addition because it gives Ruff a reliable assistant who can, one day, possibly take over. I would imagine Ruff won't be around more than 2 years and that could give the Devils and Recchi the perfect amount of time for "timing" to be perfect for a step into Ruff's spot.

This makes the staff look more complete in time to assess the team going into the Draft and Free Agency.

Personally, I am very excited to see the news today.

How do you feel, Devils fans, on how the coaching staff is taking an identity?

Penguins fans, what are your feelings on Recchi as an assistant coach for your team?

Truly yours,
