Quick update, Vegas seeking third party to help with moving Fleury. Detroit has cap room to do it, what should the return be to own a piece of the flower?
Vegas looking for Third team
Yzerman knows what he wants, in prospects and in trades. We talked a little bit about GM “FOMO” and the mess it can create in the last blog. Today, we’re looking back to July 13th to a pre draft post I did.
In July I wondered, and still do, if the resuming play in European leagues would make GMs shift some of their decisions. The development for 18/19 year old players can leap forward in the summer of their draft. For many North American skaters (or those based in jr leagues here), GMs have been pouring over video footage. For European leagues, there is live scouting being done, and you could see how that could be an advantage.
Brian LaRose penned a piece echoing this sentiment. While Lucas Raymond and Alexander Holtz have already been subject to early praise, players like that may well capture the attention of teams and overtake internal club projections.
My personal thought is that rounds 2 - 4 will see quite a bit of a shift toward players that were privy to competitive play. It’s hard to imagine that highly ranked North American players will suffer much in terms of rank, but those later round gems may be shifted quite a bit. It all remains to be seen, but it certainly bodes well for anyone who had a growth spurt or put on 10-15 pounds of muscle over the summer.
It will be a great excitement to have something new to talk about this coming week. Once Detroit’s selection is made, I will pull up your predictions. Anyone who guessed right is in the running for a $25 gift card. Good luck everyone!
