Kunin Dealt To Preds As Wild In Full Rebuild Mode

Bill Guerin continued to remake the Wild roster as he sends RFA Luke Kunin to Nashville along with a 4th round pick for Nick Bonino and the Predators 2nd and 3rd round selections in today's draft.

The move is very interesting as it signals that Guerin did not want to commit to Kunin long term showing that he felt that what we have seen from the former first round pick is about all we are going to see.

Bonino on the other hand enters the final year of his contract and may likely be a player that could be moved to a contender at the trade deadline.

The other fact that cannot be overlooked is that clearing out Kunin now makes the Wild roster that much more expansion draft friendly. The move makes more sense for the Wild to protect eight skaters rather than the traditional seven forwards and three defensemen. That will also allow the Wild to protect Matt Dumba and thus preventing the risk of losing him for nothing.

If we learned anything at all from the most recent expansion draft, teams that made deals with Vegas so as not to lose a particular player, wound up on the losing side of the deal.

It is great to see that the Wild will finally look a lot different when we next see them, and of course it will be some rough sledding as well, but the optimism of a future plan is so very refreshing.

Another interesting tidbit is that Nashville placed Kyle Turris on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying him out. If he clears do the Wild take a flyer on signing him on the cheap as a stop gap option at center?

More to come on the Wild draft...
