Quick Hits: October 25, 2020

1) Flyers prospect Elliot Desnoyers enjoyed a career-best four-goal game last night in Halifax's 10-2 romp over Cape Breton. Goal 1 was a PPG squeaker from just below the left dot that trickled just over the goal line. Goal 2 came off a skate carom on a shoot-in. Goal 3 was a slam-dunk off the rush as Desnoyers trailed his linemate on a one-on-one and made a beeline for the right side of the net as the play moved left. Goal 4 was scored on a 2-on-0 counterattack in the final minute of the game. Desnoyers, naturally, too first star honors. The two-way forward had seven shots on goal and won 16 of 30 faceoffs. He now has six goals and 12 points in eight games.

2) Flyers/Phantoms center German Rubtsov, on loan to KHL team HC Sochi, returned to full ice time (18:56) on Friday in his team's 5-2 win over Vityaz. His team is back in action on Suday as they visit HC Spartak in Moscow. For the season, Rubtsov has two points (1G, 1A) in 12 games played while averaging 13:55 of ice time.

3) Flyers/Phantoms winger David Kase's Czech Extraliga team, HC Karlovy Vary, has at least one more postponed game remaining since a Covid-19 outbreak forced the suspension of all team activities. The club has only played four games to date; Kase notched three assists in that span.

4) Today in Flyers History: October 25, 1984

Tim Kerr's second of four straight season with 54-plus goals came during the 1984-85 campaign. He got off to an absolutely torrid start, racking up 10 goals and 17 points in the first nine games of the season.

On October 25, 1984, Kerr abused the St. Louis Blues for four goals in a 7-2 blowout victory for the Flyers at the Spectrum. Along the way, Kerr scored a semi-natural hat trick. With one goal already to his credit, he scored second, third and fourth goals of the night in a 2:27 span of the third period.

The Flyers received tallies from Brian Propp (shorthanded), Dave Poulin and Lindsay Carson. With an unofficial seven blocked shots, Brad Marsh earned second-star honors. Victorious goaltender Bob Froese stopped 23 of 25 shots that made it to his net. The victory gave the Flyers a three-game winning streak and a 5-2-1 record to start the 1984-85 season under first-year head coach Mike Keenan.
