The San Jose Sharks’ schedule for the 2020-21 season was released this week and the team also terminated the contract of a player in the system. In addition, four Sharks prospects are competing at the World Juniors. Here are the updates for the week:
SHARKS’ 2020-21 SCHEDULE RELEASED
San Jose’s schedule for the upcoming season was released this week. The Sharks will open the season on January 14, against the Arizona Coyotes.
SHARKS WAIVE DANIL YURTAYKIN, CONTRACT TERMINATED
This week, the Sharks placed forward Danil Yurtaykin on unconditional waivers, in order to terminate his contract. Yurtaykin will be returning to the KHL, after spending one year with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, where he scored two goals and 17 points in 37 games.
WORLD JUNIORS UPDATE
Four Sharks prospects are currently competing at the World Juniors. Here are the stats for each player (after the Finland vs Switzerland game on Sunday):
Artemi Knizaev (RUS): 0G, 1A (1 GP)
Santeri Hatakka (FIN):
Yegor Spiridonov (RUS): 0G, 0A (1 GP)
Adam Raska (CZE): - (0 GP)
As a note, Adam Raska was suspended for one game, following a hit in a pre-tournament game, and will be playing his first game of this year’s tournament tonight.
As for our poll questions, there was only one question since the last recap, so here are the results for it, along with my thoughts.
QUESTION: Prior to the news, did you believe Danil Yurtaykin could have earned a full-time role with the Sharks at some point?
(Votes: 92)
No: 78%
Yes: 22%
Considering Yurtaykin was already 23 years old and was coming off a season with two goals in 37 AHL games, his offensive production didn't necessarily indicate he’d be an NHL forward. That said, you never know how a player can develop from year to year and perhaps Yurtaykin could have earned a role with the Sharks down the road.
