We have some interesting updates regarding the New York Islanders, two days before the team plays their season opener.
In contract news, we learned that Andy Greene’s extension is one year and will carry a $700,000 cap hit. However, Greene’s deal does carry up to $2 million in performance bonuses, some of which could possibly be counted against the cap next season.
Andy Greene has $700K salary for this season and the chance to add up to $2-million in performance bonuses. If he hits those and it puts #Isles over the cap, that amount is deducted from next season's cap.
On another note, in a somewhat surprising move, veteran forward Leo Komarov was placed on waivers today. Komarov has two years remaining on his deal at a $3 million AAV and is unlikely to be claimed.
Seven other players were also waived yesterday and all cleared today. Those players were: Cole Bardreau, Austin Czarnik, Thomas Hickey, Tanner Fritz, A.J. Greer, Andrew Ladd and Parker Wotherspoon. Some of those players could still potentially join New York’s taxi squad.
