After taking a 3-0 lead in Game 4 on Saturday, the Tampa Bay Lightning have scored 10 straight goals and the only thing that has the New York Islanders still alive in the series is the heroic save made by Ryan Pulock on Ryan McDonagh with seconds remaining.
The Isles have been feisty and combative in series victories over Pittsburgh and Boston, but bad bounces put them behind early on Monday and the Tampa power play scored three times to make the Lightning's Game 5 win an 8-0 rout.
A pummeling like the one the Isles received could psychologically be devastating and to make matters worse, New York's best forward Matt Barzal could face supplementary discipline from the NHL's Department of Player Safety for a cross-check to the head of Tampa defenseman Jan Rutta.
The question now is whether Barry Trotz can rally his troops to summon up an effort in Game 6 on Wednesday to force a Game 7 in Tampa or are the Lightning just too deep and talented for the Islanders to best.
The Rumor Chart will have some updates later this afternoon and check out the Buzzcast at 1pm, as the guys will discuss last night's game and preview Game 5 of Vegas - Montreal.
