RedWings TV did a quick hit on centers MacTavish and Lusius as possible draft targets. Both have a skill set worth looking at, and could be on Yzerman’s radar.

I apologize for being late on this post. I checked all throughout the night into the morning for the list to be released, but inevitably missed it. My initial thought is that this is a painful reminder of poor first round decision making by the past leadership. Svechnikov and Cholowski haven’t “moved the needle” much. In the case of Svech, injury derailment has been his primary burden. He’s a fantastic human being, someone you want to root for. He. Also seems to be the most likely (along with Stecher) to be selected by Seattle.

Here are the lists, courtesy of ProHockeyrumors.com

Protected: F Tyler Bertuzzi, F Adam Erne, F Robby Fabbri, F Dylan Larkin, F Michael Rasmussen, F Givani Smith, F Jakub Vrana, D Filip Hronek, D Nick Leddy, D Gustav Lindstrom, G Thomas Greiss

Key Players Exposed: D Dennis Cholowski, D Danny DeKeyser, F Vladislav Namestnikov, D Troy Stecher, F Evgeny Svechnikov

I can immediately hear someone taking issue with exposing Stecher and protecting Leddy. Stecher was a decent pickup by Yzerman. He had a good performance at the Worlds, but again I put less and less stock in some of those tournaments. The reality is, losing anyone on this list doesn’t really inspire any type of deep concern or Old Testament shirt rip (that’s right. Hulkamania was actually inspired by King David).

Just going down the list, Dekeyser and Namestnikov certainly seem save. In my opinion, Cholowski is safe as well. If it were me at the helm, it would come down to Stecher and Svechnikov. I’ll have to go through every other list, but I would personally lean toward Stecher. Good for defensive depth, played in Vancouver (very near that area).

Speaking of Vancouver, another cup winning goalie in Holtby is available (so is Matt Murray. Amazing how quick stock can plummet). I’m a little surprised that TBL exposed Cal Foote ( wish we would have dealt for him if the price was reasonable). Jordan Eberle also finds himself available, and that’s another player I wouldn’t mind seeing come to Detroit.

Once this is all over, another chunk of moves in preparation of the draft will probably come together quickly. Teams are still looking to get draft picks and become cap compliant. It’s going to be an exciting week, and free agency isn’t far behind. The mistakes of the past will continue to wash away as Yzerman moves forward in the rebuild.

I doubt anyone is shocked by the lists. Let me know who you think will get picked up, and if there were substations you would have liked.
