As picks continue to be reported ahead of tonight’s NHL Expansion Draft, the Seattle Kraken are reportedly expected to take defenseman Kurtis MacDermid from the Los Angeles Kings, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli.
MacDermid has spent his entire career with the Kings organization, playing a total of 118 NHL games with the team over the last four seasons. The defenseman is 27 years old and has one year remaining on his deal, at a $875,000 cap hit.
It’s certainly surprising to see the Kraken go with MacDermid here, over the likes of Kale Clague, Carl Grundstrom and others. He’s quite a bit older and was in and out of the lineup for the Kings this season. Regardless, it certainly seems as though the Kings managed to escape the expansion draft without any major losses and are instead losing a player who was unlikely to remain with the team long-term.
