As expected, the Seattle Kraken will reportedly select defenseman Haydn Fleury from the Anaheim Ducks in tonight's expansion draft, according to Pierre LeBrun.

Fleury was acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes at the trade deadline and played 12 games with the Ducks, scoring two goals and three points. The defenseman is 25 years old and has one year remaining on his contract, at a $1.3 million cap hit.

While Fleury is a smaller loss than other teams are facing in the expansion draft, this was an avoidable mistake by general manager Bob Murray. Fleury fit well with the Ducks but the team chose to use a 7-3-1 protection format, exposing the defender over forwards Nicolas Deslauriers, Max Jones and Jakob Silfverberg. It was a poor decision and unfortunately, it looks as though the Ducks will lose a player who could’ve been an important part of their defense group going forward.
