Svechnikov was not qualified by Wings, and Lindstrom signed for 2 years. Today’s post will be “fluid” again as signings could be trickling throughout. Yzerman has been incredibly busy, and it’s easy to like what’s going on.
The previous years have been addition by subtraction. Veterans gone, 1 buyout, new players brought in. Last year Merrill and Staal were brought in for defense. Staal is back, Merrill (at this point) is moving on after his trade to Montreal last season. Leddy was brought in. We have 4 right shot D in Hronek, Stecher, Seider and Lindstrom slated to start in Detroit. If Yzerman adds any more D, someone will have to be moving out (Dekeyser).
The rumors have been there about Danault coming over. Helm and Filppula are moving on. There is an appetite for right shooting wingers, and Bobby Ryan could well get another shot (pun intended). The addition of Nedeljkovic in net is potentially a “core” move. Only 25 with 2 seasons on this current deal, this was an exciting get.
If Wednesday goes anything like last year’s Free Agent opening day, the deal(s) for Yzerman will be done quickly. He didn’t waste time getting into bidding wars. Instead he focused on players he thought would want the opportunity. Once the moves are made (and in house RFAs are signed) we can start trying to project lines and pairings. Hopefully, without the long COVID layoff and a more regular schedule, we can get a better glance at the players who will move the needle for this organization as the rebuild moves forward.
