*a quick preface. I found out that Joseph reached out to Larkin via text and both players apologized to each other. I am very grateful that this was made public. It goes a long way when these players can mend the fence. No part of me wants to see the Wings chase Joseph around the ice for an entire game. Larkin is healthy, grateful to have him in the lineup.

My favorite Jacket - i want to try this out for the blog this year. I want to explore the players that are enjoyable to watch on the opposition team. It’s a bit strange, but my hope is that we can appreciate the talent, even when it’s on the other side. For CBJ, the player I end up focusing on quite a bit is Roslovic. (Werenski is a very close 2nd). For some reason, Roslovic seems to be engaged for most of the game and in most situations. I like his skating, his skill and just the way he plays. Let me know (if you want) who you like on the Jackets roster.

Larkin, Bertuzzi and Raymond were fun to watch before Larkin was ejected. Fabbri, Suter and Zadina also seem to click. I know Fabbri isn’t the most beloved player, but he really does make an impact when he’s out there. I’m glad we’ve got him.

Detroit was burned by Columbus in the pre season. Mo Seider, who’s been generating a lot of excitement. He’s got 3 assists and is an even rating on the ice. More than 20 minutes vs Tampa and more than 22 vs Vancouver. He was very open with his disappointment after being burned by Laine. One of the things I like about this player, he takes it all (good and bad) head on. I still can’t find a video of his spin around keep in at the blue line.

Once we’re about 10 games in, it will be a little easier to compare in game stats with opponents. With just 2 games played (and a bit of player shuffling with Larkin out vs Vancouver) it’s tough to know what this team really is at this point. However, there are some fairly simple goals for Detroit as they head to game 3.

Get below 40 shots against - 48 shots in game 1 and 41 in game 2 against 26 and 21 respectively. Period 3 vs Vancouver was a nightmare, and Greiss stood on his head. Nedeljkovic had tough sledding in game 1.

Stay out of the box - Tampa Bay hit the power play 7 times and scored 3. Vancouver went on the power play 3 times but were shut down. 10 times short handed in 2 games is a bit much. Detroit had 5 power plays in game 1 and 2 in game 2. They scored a goal with the man advantage in each contest.

Giveaways - 17 in 2 games. Some of the passing decisions have been really bad. Clean exits out of the defensive zone, and stop icing the puck. If Greiss hadn’t been lights out, all those icing calls could have cost the team much more.

Keep blocking - 12 blocks in game 1 and 19 against Vancouver. That is impressive commitment, but also shows that both games saw nearly 60 shot attempts.
