Within the last week, the Columbus Blue Jackets have added a new forward and defenseman to the roster on one year, two-way contacts to play with the main and farm clubs for the 2022-2023 season. Both are eligible to become restricted free agents after 2023.

F Joona Luoto

The Finnish LIGA Playoff MVP has rejoined former Winnipeg Jets teammates Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic in the 614. Luoto spent part of the 2020-21 and all of 2021-2022 in Finland during the pandemic, and has earned his way back to North America through pro scouting of the organization and personal ties to Laine on the main roster. Luoto is a power forward that can play either wing, and has NHL games with the Jets under his belt already. Luoto, 24, is undrafted and has 0 points in 16 career games so far.

D Marcus Bjork

The Swedish defender joins the club at a $925K salary to add depth after the loss of Kukan to Switzerland, and also expecting to not bring back Scott Harrington as well. Bjork, 24, has yet to play an NHL game staying in the SHL during his professional hockey career thus far.

Both moves appear to be additional depth to the roster, giving competition to the bottom of the Columbus roster, or to the top of the Cleveland monster. Thoughts on the moves? More to come….
