While speaking with Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin noted that he has had talks with Pat Brisson and Elias Pettersson's Swedish agent about getting the star center signed to a contract extension. With that, Allvin added that he is hoping to get Pettersson's new deal done sooner rather than later.

It is a no-brainer why Allvin is stepping up his efforts to get Pettersson extended. The 25-year-old center has had a remarkable start to the season, posting seven goals and a league-leading 25 points in his first 15 games. He has been a primary reason for the Canucks' outstanding start to the new season and is a huge part of their core, so they need to get him signed to a long-term pact.

Pettersson is in the final season of his contract and can become a restricted free agent this upcoming summer if not extended. We will need to wait and see if these talks lead to a new deal signed soon. Here's to hoping that they do.

In other news, the Canucks have provided an update on Carson Soucy, and it is not the best. The 6-foot-5 defenceman will be out week-to-week due to a foot injury, and head coach Rick Tocchet noted that he will still undergo further testing. In response to this news, the team has called up Akito Hirose.

Soucy left the Canucks' Nov. 12 contest against the Canadiens early due to his injury.

Soucy has had a nice start to the season with the Canucks. In 13 games played, the offseason addition has two goals, five points, 16 hits, and a plus-6 rating. The Canucks will miss his steady play and physicality on the blue line while he is out.

However, the Canucks are not expected to lose another one of their defencemen, as Tocchet also told reporters that Tyler Myers should be good to go for the team's game against the Islanders on Nov. 15. There was some concern over his availability, as he missed practice.

Myers is having a fine start to the season. In 15 games, the 6-foot-8 defenceman has two goals, six points, and a plus-10 rating. The Canucks will be hoping that he can continue this kind of play from here.

Lastly, after being placed on waivers, forward Jack Studnicka has since cleared and is in the AHL. The 24-year-old has played in five games this season with the Canucks, where he has a goal and a plus-2 rating.

While Studnicka has been demoted, there's a good chance that we will see him back with the NHL squad at some point during the year. Injuries will inevitably arise, and he is one of their first call-up options at forward.
