Thanks to my buddy for texting this and for H2 for posting in comments. Congratulations to the first 7th round pick from 2023 to sign an ELC. Really hoping for some news on Sandin Pellikka at some point as well.

Just one point out of the playoffs and the team keeping Detroit at bay is coming to town tonight. A regulation win for Detroit will see a shift in positions, a regulation win for Caps begins to widen the gap. It feels entirely possible that Washington could grab 3rd place in their division from Philly adding some intrigue to the chase.

There is a lot of emotion in the fan base, and has been, this year more than any in Yzerman’s tenure. From added goals to (at times) really good stretches from Lyon in net after Husso went to IR. In entertainment, the worst sound for a franchise is silence. Whether it’s people loudly cheering or loudly jeering, it shows a level of investment. Silence is the moment of disconnect where fans have walked away.

It’s no secret that Sports is the “healing balm” for Michigan. MSU vs. U of M in the collegiate semi finals was apparently an intense and awesome thing to see. My friend had tickets to the game and has had season tickets to MSU for a while. A lot of good things have come out about Augustine’s performance as his freshman tilt has been a thing of beauty. After the overtime win, my friend let me know that the tickets he’d gotten for $30 could have been sold for over 800, and that some of the regional tix in Minnesota are being offered for around 1k! That’s an incredible lift for State Hockey fans and for the Wings org.

Little Caesars Arena has had games where it felt like the place was sitting on a powder keg. Fans returned to seats and discussions have been at times heated and intense with a return to that emotional investment. If the Wings can find a win, it will be another one of those “boosts”. The Lions, U of M football, MSU hockey have all given moments where people can just enjoy the moment. Yes, it’s just sport, but there are more than a few people who need those moments.

I hope for success for this team down the stretch, but it’s going to be a grappling match. There isn’t much slack in the line (if any) leaving the margin of error to a minuscule degree regarding a post season appearance or an early round of golf. Either way, there have been a lot of fun moments this year.

Let me know your thoughts. If the Caps roll over Detroit is that pretty much it? Is at least one point in OT enough to keep the diesel going?

We’ll talk about it another time, but Ovi is now within 46 goals of Gretzky and got hot at the ideal time for the Caps (not so ideal for Detroit). That is a tall mountain to have climbed.
