As we get ready for the Cup Finals a week from now.. Ridiculous loss of momentum.... I will be focusing the rest of the week on previewing possible le trades heading into the draft, and UFA day....which is 28 short days away!
And let's start with what could become the most intriguing story surrounding July 1. Steven Stamkos and the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is about much more than money, but it is about money..and "much more than money" doesn't at all mean the Lightning are the favorites.
Stamkos has done all he can in Tampa as a Lightning. But personally, the guy is in love with the city of Toronto and would LOVE to be the one who leads his childhood team back to a Stanley Cup.
For the first time ever, the signs are all around that both Tampa and the Stamkos are leaning towards moving on. The Bolts don't have a ton of money and went out and spent a good deal of it on Ryan McDonagh...Stamkos agent has been telling everyone whop will listen that Tampa and Steven are nowhere near each other at this point...
The Leafs would have to move a serious player out of course, and that would lean towards either Marner or Nylander....UNLESS Stamkos is willing to take a lot less...which is possible...
