Where Will Necas Go??

Of the 14 players who filed for salary arbitration on Friday, the name of Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas was the most curious.

The 25-year-old is coming off a 53-point season and has been the focus of trade chatter since the Canes were eliminated in the second round. Necas was almost traded at the draft to Columbus, but now he will likely go somewhere else.

But where?

Montreal – Remember Sebastian Aho, remember Jesperi Kotkaniemi, the Canes and Habs have been intertwined for years. Montreal has all their 2025 draft picks and could have offered an offer sheet route again, but now after going to arb, that option is gone. Would the two sides make a deal?

Utah – The former Coyotes have already proved to be bold with trades for Sergachev and Marino, and have plenty of draft picks, prospects and assets that the Canes could find enticing.

This along with Mitch Marner and Draisaitl will be the ongoing saga of the summer.
