Lots of Smoke about Top Flyers Goalie Prospect Wanting out... Any Fire?

AHL Report's Tony Androckitis reported on Saturday that Flyers top goalie prospect Alexei Kolosov informed the organization that he does not want to return to North America for the 2024-25 season.

This is the third such report to emerge during the offseason, and the first from a North American outlet. The first two arose from sources in Russia and Belarus.

For what it's worth, the Flyers denied the reports last month and have continued to maintain that Kolosov told the organization there was nothing to it. Since that time, however, Kolosov did not attend the team's Development Camp -- he had said he was coming -- and then a report emerged from Belarus that he was trying to enlist Minsk Belarus to help him break his NHL Entry level contract and the agreement he and Minsk made with Philadelphia last season.

The agreement was for Philly to loan Kolosov to Dinamo for the 2023-24 season (which burned the first season of Kolsov's ELC) and for the goalie to then report to the United States. After Dinamo's season, Kosolov spent roughly four weeks with the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms late in the season and during the playoffs.

More transparency is needed here, because there's a whole lot of smoke. Given what happened last season with 2022 first-round pick Cutter Gauther forcing a trade, it would be a bad look to see another top prospect refuse to play in the organization.
