Where does the time go?! How is it that I haven't written a blog in a week?! My apologies....
Some general thoughts for you to chew on:
- Many predicted the Colorado Avalanche would once again be in the mix for a high draft pick this June, but after these past three games people are starting to change their tune. While I always look for the positives, I'm also capable of rational thought and while the Avs have managed to win their past three - and last nights game in convincing fashion - there is still a lot of room for improvement. When I saw them against Boston, they struggled mightily to win puck battles and even puck races to get or maintain possession. For me, that is the biggest area of concern...can't score if you don't have the puck. On the bright side, Seymon Varlamov and rookie Gabriel Landeskog have been playing some fantastic hockey. That said...we're only four games into an 82 game season. Let's see how the next 16 go and reassess.
- The Bruins seem to still be celebrating their Stanley Cup victory. They are still playing summer hockey and don't seem to be aware the season has started. That's too bad, but their struggles, along with those of the Vancouver Canucks, to win games this past week just re-emphasizes just how hard it is to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions. Let's hope both teams can figure it out sooner rather than later. With the implosion of the Red Sox, no Celtics and the so-so play of the Patriots, the patience of Boston's Faithful has worn thin and it won't take long for them to turn on their Beloved Bruins.
- Glad to see Sidney Crosby back as a fully functional member of practice again and with a smile on his face. It's great to see how excited he is to be back in the mix.
- I'm rather bummed to see Cam Atkinson reassigned by the Columbus Blue Jackets... I thought he had been playing great and am pretty convinced that he'll be called back up in the not too distant future.
- The Jets....I was happy to see their fans give them a standing ovation after their home opener on Sunday, despite the 5-1 loss to Montreal. The question is...how long will this honeymoon last? Just because the team moved to Canada doesn't instantly make them a contender. These are still the Atlanta Thrashers and you shouldn't expect them to play any differently until some rather drastic personnel changes are made.

I'm going to get smarter this afternoon just by being on the campus of Harvard University as I have a chat with their hockey team. Then it's off to Boston College as the #1 Eagles will host #3 Denver at 7:30 ET on CBS Sports. Here's a look at what happened last weekend and the games scheduled for this weekend....
