Monday Quick Hits

* In Saturday's finale of the World Junior Championship Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, NY, Team USA rolled past Canada, 5-1, while Finland downed Sweden by a 3-2 mark via shootout.

Anthony Stolarz did not play in the final game, as Team USA went with its most likely WJC starting goaltender, Jon Gillies (24 saves on 25 shots). Scott Laughton dressed for the first and only time in the tournament for Canada, and did not figure in any scoring. Potential first overall 2014 Draft pick, Sam Reinhart, scored the lone goal for the Canadians. Quentin Shore scored twice for the Americans, while Stefan Matteau, Ian McCoshen and Riley Barber had single tallies.

Robert Hägg did not figure in either of Sweden's goals. He had one assist in five games at the camp. He will now return to Sweden to rejoin his teammates with Modo. Jacob de la Rose and Christian Djoos scored for the Swedes. Teuvo Teräväinen got Finland on the board early in the second period and later scored one of three Finnish goals in the shootout, along with Arturri Lehkonen and Samu Markkula. Filip Sandberg and Alexander Wennberg converted their shootout attempts in a losing cause for the Swedes.

* Forty-six years ago today, the first-year expansion team Philadelphia Flyers signed Bernie Parent to a contract after selecting him from the Boston Bruins in the expansion draft. The Flyers also signed a minor league goaltender named Claude Cyr on that day.

* Today is the 68th birthday of Rosaire Paiment. A star forward for the minor league Jersey Devils and the Quebec Aces (the Flyers' first farm team), Paiement made his NHL debut for the Flyers during the first year of their existence. He dressed in 43 games over parts of three seasons, making his biggest impact in the team's first-round playoff loss to the St. Louis Blues in 1968. He scored a hat trick -- the first playoff hat trick in Flyers' history -- against Hall of Fame goalie Glenn Hall in Philly's 6-1 win in Game 5 of the series. Paiement's other significance in Flyers' history is the fact that, on Oct. 18, 1967, the Flyers traded their 1970 first round pick to Boston to acquire him. The player Boston took with that pick, Rick MacLeish, was later traded to Philadelphia and became a key member of the Flyers' two Stanley Cup winning teams.
