Interesting piece from Sylvain St-Laurent today in
La Presse on former Ottawa Senators enforcer Matt Kassian.
My French is a bit rusty -- as in I can't read or speak it at all -- but the Google Translate of the piece seems to go something like this:
Last spring, Bryan Murray told reporters that Matt Kassian wanted to leave the Senators.
There must have been some misunderstanding.
The strong man spent the summer in Ottawa. He still does not have a contract in his pocket for the next season. If the Senators need him, he is available.
Which, I mean, is kind of interesting. Just a few months ago, Bryan Murray suggested that Matt Kassian and the team were mutually parting ways (

"Matt Kassian is not in my plans, and I don't think we're in his plans," he said. "He indicated to me (Monday) he wants to have a chance to go where he might get a chance to play more often. He didn't feel he played a lot here."
It makes you wonder if Kassian thought there would be opportunity outside of Ottawa. Problem is, enforcers just aren't getting signed like they used to for obvious reasons, and the inevitable phasing out of these types of players has been happening for quite some time.
Ottawa hasn't really addressed the enforcer role (thankfully), but that's probably because Chris Neil is more of an enforcer than a player these days, and the team is loaded with other guys who can fight -- including recently extended Mark Borowiecki.
As for Kassian, it seems possible he'll get some sort of camp invite or two-way offer in the coming months. But, still doesn't sound like it'll be from Ottawa.
