Ladies and Gentlreman, your new Coyotes blogger: Paul McCann
Just kidding. I am honestly glad Paul tackled the news so I don't have to. After reading what Paul wrote and about seven other stories surrounding this, I realized I don't care and have nothing much to add - if there is a decision one way or the other, I'll get to that, but for now, all I saw was people initiating a lawsuit, it's not like the team is just going to move tomorrow.
If you care about this story, you've read about it from every angle. Me, I just have some general fatigue about the whole thing. I would rather be writing a blog today about the Coyotes players, the Draft or the - I don't know - STANLEY CUP FINAL.
This is a constant thing with this team and it's insane. Every time you think the threat of the team leaving is gone, it comes back, like Gremlins or Poltergeist or Rob Schneider's career.
So the City Council voted to terminate the lease. This will go to court forever and the future of the Coyotes should be decided in time for the 2025 season, assuming that the team doesn't just get sick of the headache and bail - although after all the NHL has gone through to keep the team there, who knows what they're thinking.
Scottsdale, Downtown, Las Vegas? Saskatchewan, Quebec, New Zealand?
Your guess is as good as mine, but I do enjoy seeing lots of people who just totally and absolutely know for sure what is going to happen - at the very least they're adding humour to this ridiculous situation.
And is it ridiculous. Say what you want about their motives for protecting the taxpayers, these guys are still morons. Even if their motives are pure (they aren't) it's a short-sighted and expensive way to make a point because I don't think there is any chance they actually save money: the most likely outcome is that they are stuck with a team who's value they just sabotaged, and which will now cost the tax payer even more money.
In the end, it took about five seconds for the Coyotes to threaten legal action. I wonder how the legal team of an apparently not too affluent city will fare against a couple of billionaires and the NHL's legal team? Here is a sneak peak:
As you can clearly see from the above footage, the Glendale City Council Legal Team is probably going to bounce five feet into the air after receiving a knockout blow. How thrilling.
Let's cheer up with one of the best songs from the 90s:
Now let's check out what I just bought on Amazon (because for real, isn't that more interesting than more non-hockey related Coyotes commentary?)
The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency and I This classic 90's record is one of the greatest things ever recorded, but very hard to find. I had to get it shipped from Germany and it cost like $30 bones.
Warren Zevon - Original Album Series: Comes with the first five Zevon records.
R.E.M Collapse into Now - completes my discography collection. Late era R.E.M is criminally underrated, like Nazem Kadri and The Tommyknockers.
I am telling you kids, the good times never stop. But besides the thrill of ordering new CDs, it is also only two weeks until the Draft. Good times.
