With not much else happening in the New Jersey Devils' hockey world I figured I'd share the ratings for their players in NHL 17.
To make things easier I just used the line combinations they have in the game so please don't yell at me for putting Taylor Hall on right wing, Vern Fiddler on the 2nd line or Brandon Gormley on the top pairing.
Mike Cammalleri (87) - Adam Henrique (87) - Taylor Hall (90)
Vern Fiddler (80) - Travis Zajac (85) - Kyle Palmieri (87)
Reid Boucher (80) - Sergei Kalinin (80) - Devante Smith-Pelly (82)
Miles Wood (75) - Joseph Blandisi (78) - Beau Bennett (80)
Andy Greene (85) - Brandon Gormley (76)
John Moore (84) - Jon Merrill (84)
Ben Lovejoy (82) - Damon Severson (85)
Cory Schneider (91)
Keith Kinkaid (75)
Also noteworthy: Jacob Josefson (80), Luke Gazdic (74), Steve Santini (76)
A couple thoughts:
1) I think the ratings for the Devils' big four up front (Cammalleri, Henrique, Palmieri and Hall) are very fair. Cammalleri has had problems staying healthy but when in the lineup he's been very productive. Henrique and Palmieri are coming off 30 goal campaigns and Hall is one of the best forwards in the league. That all makes sense.
2) The defense ratings, to me, are pretty suspect. If Jon Merrill is an 84 then Andy Greene should be a 99 because the two aren't even close. The same goes for Damon Severson. Relatively speaking I think Ben Lovejoy is a little underrated considering he averaged 20 minutes a night for a dominant Pittsburgh Penguins team while Merrill, for example, struggled playing less for a team that finished 2nd last in their division.
What do you guys think of the ratings? Is there anyone in particular you feel is overrated or underrated?
