Coyotes Win + the first Coyotes Mailbag in HB History

The Coyotes and the Flames played a game last night. If the NHL had the intention of only having one premier game going on for full exposure, then, in the immortal words of George Bush "Mission Accomplished."

Actually, I think that the schedule maker didn't realize that the NFL season was over.

Arizona had a pretty sweet game, they won 5-0, Smith got a shut-out, Dvorak had two goals and for one night, things were good. Also, Calgary's coach put Johnny WorstNickname on the fourth line, a move so incompetent I would normally have to be watching CNN to hear about.

Anyways, on to the questions:

From a confused Jets Fan:

Dear James,

How is my boy Burmistrov doing out there?

Signed Confuzed

Dear Confuzed,

His seven points in 12 games look better then they are. His 5v5 primary point production is about what you'd expect from a waiver wire bust - minimal.

His defensive game is weak and he's taking a roster spot from someone who could be getting valuable experience.

Signed James

Dear James,

Strome can score all the points he wants but how's his skating.. still look like his feet are sore? Does he play fast like Mitch Marner or slow like DS?

Pls for once tell us something we don't know..from Canada.

Signed, Weird Abbreviation User

Dear Weird Abbreviation User,

was it really so hard to type the three extra letters in the word Please? This is honestly a confusing question. I agree that Strome can score all the points he wants, as in the OHL he is an NHL player playing against nerds. You clearly are disguising your opinion that he's too slow for the NHL as a question.

Something you don't know about Canada....no one actually likes Tim Hortons coffee, despise it's cultural ubiquitousness. Something else you might not know is that I invented an alarm hooked up to my TV that recognizes when Steve Zahn appears on a show or movie. It's the 'Steve Zahn Alert,' patent pending.

As for Strome, have you ever seen Joe Thornton skate? He'll be fine.

Signed, James

This one comes to us from Mike Smith himself:

Dear James,

How is Mike Smith not positive number one, and why would they ever want to trade him? It's not like they have some young stud ready to take over or even anyone who's an NHL goalie.

There's nothing better for young players than to play in front of a top flight goalie every night, and the Coyotes could easily be a playoff team with Smith next year after they shed their dead weight. If they spend the next five years stockpiling high draft picks, they're going to lose everyone of value they currently have.

Signed Smithy

Dear Smithy,

While I appreciate your contributions, it's time to go. The Coyotes need to be in asset recovery mode and while you're playing amazing this year, you are not year-to-year consistent enough to qualify as a stabilizing presence.

If I was in charge, I would have claimed Andrew Hammond and traded you. As for the Playoffs next year, it's not impossible. The Coyotes have done all the hard parts and it's time to surround the rookies with vets and make some noise. No worry about drafting high any more after this year,

Signed James

Dear James,

I wonder if James actually watched the game last night ,

Signed, a Different James

Dear Inferior James,

I did not. I watched Columbus / NY and then watched 24. I watch enough hockey that two of the league's worst teams in February, on a Monday, is not something I can stand.

Signed the best James

Dear James,

Stromes speed/skating is not exposed in the OHL, so he can just drift in to the zone and make the right pass and put up 3 puts a night. But in the NHL he never even gets in to the zone and never gets a chance to even try to make a play because he is one of the WORST skaters to ever be drafted top 10. He was legitimately always the worst player on the ice this year, even while Ryan White was on his wing.

Signed Dave Poulin

Dear Dave,

This is why I turn off TSN when you come on.

Signed James.

Dear James,

I'm sure the win against the Flames was a miracle. Toss in a shot on Tippett and a video of a crappy song nobody gives a poop about and we've already written most of it .

The bar for miracles is pretty low these days, it seems. I wouldn't call beating the Flames 5-0 a miracle, but considering their defense, they probably should be a better team. I guess there's only so far mediocre goalies can take you. It's time to trade Gio for a huge haul that sets you up as contenders for the next decade.

Signed James

P.S Dave Tippett is garbage.

The end. Thanks to all who mailed these in.
