Day 3: Scrimmage and Preseason Game Wrapup
On Sunday morning, the players not participating in Sunday afternoon's preseason opener against the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum were instead involved in a morning scrimmage between "Team Orange" and "Team Black". Team Black prevailed in overtime, 3-2.
Jordan Weal set up
Michael Raffl for a tap-in game winner against
Liam Hughes in OT. The other goal scorers were
Mike Vecchione (Team Black),
Claude Giroux (Team Orange) and
Corban Knight (Team Orange).

On Sunday afternoon, a Flyers roster consisting mostly of prospects and young NHL players took on an Islanders roster comprised of many of their established regulars. The Islanders dominated most of the game, collecting a 3-0 win.
New York cashed in each of its first two power play opportunities, taking a 2-0 lead to the first intermission. They added an even-strength goal in the middle stanza.
Kieffer Bellows (power play),
Cal Clutterbuck (power play) and
Sebastian Aho scored for the Islanders. The Flyers showed signs of life in the third period but couldn't make any headway on the scoreboard.
For the Flyers, the most significant event in Sunday's game was an upper-body injury (it appeared to his left shoulder) sustained by
Travis Sanheim in the second period. On the play, an errant pass from
Christian Folin got behind Sanheim. The second year defenseman turned to retrieve the puck and was hit, from about 4 feet from the boards, by the Islanders'
Matt Martin. Sanheim crashed awkwardly into the wall. He did not return to the game. Flyers GM Ron Hextall said there would be an update on Monday.

Monday Game Day Schedule
On Monday, the Flyers (who will dress many more regulars this time) will take on the Islanders (who will likely have a prospect and bubble-player filled lineup) at the Wells Fargo Center. Game time is 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on NBCSP+
The morning skate will be held at 10 a.m. in Voorhees. At noon, the non-participants in the game will have a practice session. Below is the Flyers morning skate group, from which 12 forwards and 6 defensemen will be chosen. There is a good chance that the line of
Nolan Patrick centering
James van Riemsdyk and
Jakub Voracek will make its preseason debut as a unit (Patrick played in Sunday's loss in Uniondale).
Michal Neuvirth and
Carter Hart will split the goaltending chores.
