The Rangers broke their six-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Devils. Ryan Strome continued his solid play of late by tallying the first and last goals of the game. Libor Hajek notched his first goal of his NHL career before leaving with a separated left shoulder with 8:25 remaining in the third period. Henrik Lundqvist made 24 saves for the win, his first win as a 37-year-old, his first since Feb. 19 and only his second since Jan. 31, when he had won four in a row. Considering the victory occurred on March 9, that shows you just how long the slump has been. New York faces Edmonton on Monday.

Quinn continues to push this team, not accepting mediocrity or allowing players, rookies and veterans alike to get soft. He sat Kevin Shattenkirk last game, moved Chris Kreider down Thursday and placed him on the fourth line yesterday. Pavel Buchnevich has responded to the tough love, as has Brady Skjei and others. While it won't always work and hasn't always work, Quinn is established and has established the baseline expectations. It's not hard. Play hard and compete on each shift, show the right effort and even if results may not be there, that player will remain in the lineup. Miss any of the above and it's pine time.

Shattenkirk and Kreider responded yesterday. After a rough three minutes-plus to end the first period, resulting in both goals against, New York rallied in the second and carried play most of the rest of the way. Shattenkirk's shot deflected in on Strome. Late in the second period, Quinn recognized just how well Kreider was playing, moving him up to the second line, with Strome and Jesper Fast. This is another aspect I liek about Quinn. He recognizes when a player is rolling and will move him up a line or two or just reward him with additional ice time.

Kreider set up Hajek’s first NHL goal – a wrister from the top of the left circle up under the crossbar behind goalie Cory Schneider to tie the score at 2-2. Hajek has shown a better than expected ability to join the rush, not showing any indecision while also recognizing when to lay back. In addition, he has the speed to catch up if beaten. Unfortunately, Hajek left the game with a left shoulder separation in the middle of the third on a legal but hard hit from Blake Coleman. There is not yet a timetable for his return, but there’s less than a month left in the season, meaning he could miss the rest of the year.
