The Anaheim Ducks announced today that defenseman Radko Gudas has been named as the team’s new captain.
Gudas is 34 years old and signed a three-year contract with the Ducks last summer. In his first season with the Ducks, Gudas averaged nearly 20 minutes per game in ice time across 66 games. A tough-to-play against blue liner, Gudas was arguably the perfect fit within the team’s defense group, and did his part in adding a bit of stability on the back end.
Gudas will serve as the team’s ninth captain in franchise history, and is the team’s first captain in two years, following Ryan Getzlaf’s retirement. While Gudas may not be a long-term part of the team’s core based on his age, he’ll be a key piece as the team tries to take some steps in the coming years, and is one of the team’s more effective veterans.
