Salo was selected by the Islanders with the 46th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. He’s a left-handed defenseman who has spent his entire career in Europe, split between Finland and Sweden.
Salo has spent the 2020-21 season in the SHL, Sweden’s highest professional league, where he’s scored five goals and 25 points in 39 games. After signing, Salo was loaned to his current SHL team, meaning he’ll likely finish the season in Sweden, before coming to North America.
