The Los Angeles Kings are heading back to the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
The Kings clinched a playoff spot last night, following the Vegas Golden Knights’ shootout loss to the Dallas Stars. As a result, Los Angeles takes third place in the Pacific Division and will play the Edmonton Oilers in the first round.
Edmonton will have home ice advantage for the series, with the Kings having won one of four games against the Oilers this year. The Kings defeated the Oilers 5-1 in December, but dropped each of the next three games to Edmonton.
It’s an accomplishment for the Kings to be back in the playoffs, signalling the first major step past their rebuild. Los Angeles will wrap up their season with two games over the next two nights, against the Seattle Kraken and Vancouver Canucks.
