The Los Angeles Kings announced their season-opening roster yesterday, featuring 12 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders. Meanwhile, Drew Doughty and Arthur Kaliyev were placed on injured reserve.

In goal, Darcy Kuemper and David Rittich took the two spots as expected, while Pheonix Copley was the odd-man out. Seven of the eight defenders to make the roster also came as no surprise: Mikey Anderson, Brandt Clarke, Joel Edmundson, Vladislav Gavrikov and Jordan Spence were all penciled in for lineup spots, while Kyle Burroughs and Andreas Englund were also both basically locked in to make the roster once Drew Doughty was injured. The only blue liner to make the roster who seemed a little less likely to do so coming into camp was Caleb Jones, but we can expect he’s not likely to see much game action.

Then up front as well, the 12 forwards to make the team came as no surprise: Quinton Byfield, Phillip Danault, Kevin Fiala, Warren Foegele, Tanner Jeannot, Anze Kopitar, Adrian Kempe, Alex Laferriere, Trevor Lewis, Trevor Moore, Akil Thomas and Alex Turcotte.

The only somewhat notable part with the current forward group is that just 12 players were listed, so neither Andre Lee or Samuel Fagemo made the initial roster. That said, if we do see an injured player moved to LTIR, someone could still be brought up ahead of the first game of the season, with that most likely being Lee.

The Kings open the season on Thursday, when they face the Buffalo Sabres.
