Tampa and Florida both clinched playoff spots yesterday despite both losing in regulation. Kings clinched a spot with their shutout win over the Oilers.
The Leafs put a major dent in the Jackets playoff hopes with a 5-0 win at home on Saturday. Robertson back in the line up scored twice as did Willie, and Matthews lit the lamp to pick up another 30 goal season. Stolarz stopped all 27 shots he faced to pick up his second shutout of the season.
The Leafs, Lightning and Panthers each have 6 games left, Florida concludes their road trip today with a stop in Detroit. Panthers are only 4 points up on Ottawa now, who also play this afternoon as they entertain Columbus.
Leafs are 10 points up on Ottawa, Ottawa has 12 possible points remaining, and Toronto would hold the tiebreaker with more regulation wins. Leafs are sitting in a great spot atop of the Atlantic with a little points buffer as they head to Florida. 4 points over Tampa and 6 over Panthers.
Toronto heads south with a 4 game win streak, with just 5 goals against in that span. Since the 4 nations ended, the Leafs have the best record in the East 14-5-2 (.714). Habs have the second best record in the East in that span, 12-4-4 (.700). If I'm the Capitals, I'd be very worried about seeing Montreal in the first round of the playoffs.
