Welcome to the next chapter of rebuilding the flyers…
And this might perhaps be the most important one…Today we discussed which direction you think the flyers should go with the head coach:
Rick Tocchet or David Carl?
On Rick Tocchet:
Pros.
His NHL coaching record:631 Games .511 Winning Pecentage
He is an ex-player. Among the NHL players Tocchet is pretty much considered a God…. He’s extremely personable, and tough, but also intelligent. Tocchet as a Flyer was both a scorer and a tough guy….as his career went along he ended up playing with Mario Lemieux and became much more of a scorer.. so he knows all about skill and toughness firsthand. And that honestly does matter to players that he can preach what he’s done personally..
Cons:
Loa winning percentage. but you must remember that she coached Arizona for many years when they were terrible and mad them half descent…. In Vancouver, he’s been very good, even this year with all the turmoil of players divided and injuries, he kept them in the race.
He is a Former Flyer…There are those out there who really and truly are afraid of the Flyers getting too Ex-Flyers Centric. Rick was a flyer a long time ago. Craig Berube was the last ex flyer to coach the team. It didn’t work out here, but it definitely worked out in St Louis.
On David Carle:
Pros:
In eight years coaching at his alma mater University of Denver, he has coached 636 games and has a .697 Winning Percentage…which is amazing… but if you only look at the last four years, that winning percentage goes up to .760. And in the last four years he has won two national championships, and currently is coaching in the final four…going for his fourth national championship in three years. He is also considered a very strong Xs and O’s guy who’s mid game adjustments are legendary He has also coached the USA world juniors team to two straight golds and has a 13 and 1 record in that time. Only beaten be Sam Ersson. Oddly enough…He has a great ability to coach and communicate well with younger players, and the Flyers will have plenty of young ones for the next several years. As an aside, Has Flyers Orange/Red Hair… which we can all agree would look amazing on the flyers bench…
Cons:
No NHL coaching experience. Is 35 years old. That’s really it… However, people in the know compare him quite favorably to John Cooper in Tampa….
So FlyersBuzz Peeps….
Who do you like more?
Is there another coach you’d rather see?
