Carolina Hurricanes forward Max Pacioretty is expected to miss six months after surgery to repair a torn Achilles, the team announced yesterday.
Pacioretty was acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights last month. It’s a major blow for the Hurricanes forward group but Pacioretty should be healthy for the playoffs. It'll be interesting to see if the team looks to add another forward with Pacioretty missing extended time.
In other news, the World Juniors started yesterday, with four Hurricanes prospects participating in the tournament.
Ronan Seeley will be Carolina’s only prospect representing Canada. Seeley was selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
Meanwhile, Nikita Quapp is suiting up for Germany. The netminder was drafted by the Hurricanes in the sixth round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
Aleksi Heimosalmi and Ville Koivunen will both be representing Finland as well. Heimosalmi was taken 44th overall by the Hurricanes in 2021, while Koivunen was taken seven picks later in the same draft.
