Over the last month or so, I've been writing player profiles which look at each player on the San Jose Sharks and assess how they performed this year. This article will look at each player who was traded by the Sharks this year and how they performed with the team before being moved.
BRENDEN DILLON
It made sense to trade Brenden Dillon based on his expiring contract, but losing him means there’s certainly a hole in San Jose’s top-four going forward. He had 14 points in 59 games, along with an expected goals for percentage of 51.8 per cent (according to NaturalStatTrick.com), despite facing decent competition. Dillon also averaged two minutes per game on the penalty kill and was one of only two skaters to play more than 20 games with the Sharks and finish the year without a negative plus-minus rating.
BARCLAY GOODROW
Goodrow was in the midst of his best NHL season yet, scoring 24 points in 62 games, a pace of 32 points per 82 games. He took on a larger role this year and made use of it, averaging more shots and shot attempts per game than in any other year. While Goodrow leaving certainly impacts San Jose’s offensive depth, if you’re able to get a first-round pick out of the trade, you have to make it.
PATRICK MARLEAU
Marleau made his return to San Jose after two years in Toronto, where he provided some decent depth scoring for the Sharks. He scored 10 goals and 20 points in 58 games, a pace of 14 goals and 28 points per 82 games. Marleau’s expected goals for percentage was below 50 per cent as well, but despite less-than-stellar underlying numbers, as well as declining production, he still left a hole in San Jose’s lineup after he was dealt to Pittsburgh at the trade deadline.
