Carolina Hurricanes prospect Jake Bean has won the Eddie Shore Award, as the AHL’s defenseman of the year.
It's an impressive accomplishment for a defender who's just 21 years old. Bean scored 48 points in 58 games this season with the Charlotte Checkers, following up what was a great rookie season in 2018-19. Just over a week ago, Bean was also named to the AHL's First All-Star Team.
Jake Bean of the @CheckersHockey is the winner of the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL’s outstanding defenseman for the 2019-20 season.
As for where Bean fits next season, hopefully he’s up with the Hurricanes on the third pairing. He’s developed well in the AHL over the last two seasons and with the expansion draft just a year away, it’ll be important for Carolina to determine how high of a priority protecting him will be.
