The San Jose Sharks fell 5-2 to the Vancouver Canucks last night, dropping their second home game in a row.

After somewhat of a slow first half of the opening frame, Brock Boeser opened the scoring for the Canucks, taking a pass from Tanner Pearson and firing a shot past Adin Hill. Then just a few minutes later, J.T. Miller found Bo Horvat with a nice cross-ice pass on a power play and Horvat beat Hill to extend Vancouver’s lead to 2-0. The Sharks would get one back before the end of the frame though, as a blocked shot popped out right to Timo Meier, who beat Thatcher Demko.

Despite the Sharks being the better team in the second period, the Canucks ended up extending their lead, as Boeser put a great shot past Hill from a good spot. While the Sharks outshot the Canucks 12-5 in the frame, they entered the third period down 3-1.

In the final frame, Andrew Cogliano cut the lead to a single goal, putting a shot through Demko. San Jose got some great chances to tie the game after that but J.T. Miller secured a win for the Canucks with only about 2:30 to go, beating Hill on the rush to put the Canucks up by two once again. The Canucks would add an empty netter after that, for a 5-2 final.

The Sharks put a lot of shots on goal but once again just couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities. Over their last two games, they’ve scored just three goals on 70 shots.

San Jose is now 2-3-0 on their seven-game homestand so far, having lost three of their last four games. They’ll face the Canucks once again on Tuesday, before finishing up their homestand against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.
