The San Jose Sharks have loaned prospect Ivan Chekhovich to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod of the KHL.

Chekhovich was selected by the Sharks in the seventh round of the 2017 NHL Draft. In his first season of professional hockey this past year, he scored four goals and 12 points in 42 AHL games.

It was fairly underwhelming production and Chekhovich didn’t take the step that some may have expected him to, after his 105-point season in the QMJHL the year prior. At 21 years old, hopefully Chekhovich will be able to adjust better to the KHL and progress in his development.

Unlike many players who have been loaned in the offseason, this is a full-year loan, according to San Jose Hockey Now’s Sheng Peng, rather than simply one that would conclude once NHL/AHL hockey resumes.

Here’s today’s poll question (results and discussion will be posted in a future article):

Do you think Ivan Chekhovich will earn a full-time role in the NHL at some point?
Yes
No
