The San Jose Sharks will look to rebound against the Vegas Golden Knights tonight, after being shut out in a 4-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday.
The loss to Colorado wasn’t really an overly close game. The Sharks were outshot 38-26 and even before Colorado ran away with it in the third period, the Avalanche were the better team, controlling a good portion of the play throughout the game.
As much as I complain about San Jose’s defense, the forwards are a big part of the team giving up as many chances as they do. A good portion of the wingers don't pressure the points overly hard or win battles along the boards to get pucks out and the centers have issues tying up anyone in front. How many forwards do the Sharks have that have actually been reliable defensively this year? The list is pretty short.
Tonight, the Sharks face the Golden Knights, who lead the West Division and are riding a four-game win streak. Joachim Blichfeld will be out, serving a suspension for a hit on Nathan MacKinnon in Wednesday’s game. Both Joel Kellman and Kurtis Gabriel are expected to draw into the lineup for San Jose. The Sharks have faced Vegas once this season, partway through February, and lost 3-1.
