The San Jose Sharks selected forward William Eklund with the seventh-overall pick last night.

Eklund is a slightly undersized forward, who produced very well in Sweden’s highest professional league this season. In 40 SHL games, Eklund managed 11 goals and 23 points, which was higher than the points per game average of 2020 top picks Lucas Raymond and Alexander Holtz.

The Sharks were fortunate for Eklund to still be available at seventh overall and this is a really solid pick for the team. It remains to be seen as to how far off Eklund is from making the jump to the NHL, but he does have a high offensive upside.
