The San Jose Sharks announced yesterday that they’ve signed defenseman Scott Harrington to a professional tryout.

Harrington is 29 years old and spent the majority of last season in the AHL, playing 50 games with the Cleveland Monsters. That said, he has played a total of 210 career NHL games, most of which came with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

While the Sharks do essentially have a full defense group already, adding a defenseman with NHL experience would only help their depth. Especially with Nikolai Knyzhov set to miss more time as well, it wouldn’t hurt to have another defenseman to call upon if needed.
