The 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship concluded this past weekend, with Canada defeating Finland for Gold on Saturday.

Ronan Seeley, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2020 draft, won Gold as a member of Team Canada. The defenseman registered four assists in seven games and was the only Hurricanes' prospect to take home Gold at the tournament.

However, two other prospects earned Silver with Finland. Aleksi Heimosalmi had seven points in seven games, which was tied for the team lead amongst defenders. Meanwhile, Ville Koivunen went pointless in six games.

Goalie Nikita Quapp also participated in the tournament with Germany, but did not earn a medal.

Between Seeley and Heimosalmi in particular, the prospects’ success at the tournament is a reminder of Carolina's recent history of asset management and drafting. The Hurricanes have consistently managed to accumulate picks during Don Waddell’s tenure as general manager and it’s a good sign to see the likes of Seeley and Heimosalmi performing well for their respective countries. Both project to be solid defenders within the organization and provide even more defensive depth for Carolina.
