The Los Angeles Kings opened the season this week, with two games against the Minnesota Wild. Here’s the weekly recap.

KINGS BLOW LEADS, LOSE GAMES AGAINST WILD IN OVERTIME

The Kings began the season with two losses to the Minnesota Wild, picking up two of a possible four points. The Kings blew a two-goal lead in the third period of the first game, then lost in overtime. It was deja vu for the Kings in the second game, as they once again blew a two-goal lead in the third period, then lost 4-3 in overtime for a second game in a row.

FRK AND TURCOTTE INJURED

Forwards Martin Frk and Alex Turcotte are both injured to start the season and are listed as week-to-week. Both players are dealing with lower-body injuries and missed the two games against the Wild.

TROY GROSENICK CLAIMED BY OILERS

Goaltender Troy Grosenick was claimed off waivers by the Edmonton Oilers this week. Grosenick spent the 2019-20 season in the AHL, where he had posted a .920 save percentage in 33 games, before signing with the Kings in the offseason.

As for our poll questions this week, here are some of the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out:

QUESTION: Are you surprised that Quinton Byfield didn’t make the Kings’ roster?

(Votes: 152)

No: 85%
Yes: 15%

Despite the fact that Byfield was the second-overall pick, it’s not overly surprising that he wasn’t named to the initial roster. More development could help him and the Kings do have quite a few other prospects to find playing time for as well.

QUESTION: Do you think the Kings will trade more players for picks/prospects at the deadline?

(Votes: 42)

Yes: 81%
No: 19%

While the Kings are starting on the upward trend of their rebuild, it could make sense to continue selling pieces at the deadline. Especially considering the expansion draft will be coming, it shouldn’t be shocking to see players dealt at the deadline.

QUESTION: Are you surprised Troy Grosenick was claimed off waivers?

(Votes: 115)

Yes: 52%
No: 48%

In another year, this would be quite a bit more surprising. However, given that teams need to carry three goalies on their roster/taxi squad, goalies have been getting claimed left and right, so it’s not a huge shock.
