The San Jose Sharks played four games this week and were busy on trade deadline day. Here’s a recap of news and notes from the week.
SHARKS LOSE ALL FOUR GAMES
The Sharks lost all four of their games this week and now find themselves with just one win in their last seven games. San Jose was swept by the Ducks in a two-game series, before dropping back-to-back games to the Minnesota Wild.
THREE DEALS COMPLETED ON DEADLINE DAY
While San Jose didn't really make any significant deals ahead of the trade deadline, they were busy on deadline day itself. The Sharks made three trades, dealing Fredrik Claesson, Nick DeSimone and Antti Suomela and acquiring Alexander Barabanov, Magnus Chrona and a draft pick in return. The Sharks had also dealt Devan Dubnyk and Stefan Noesen in the days leading up to the deadline.
MARLEAU TIES RECORD FOR MOST NHL GAMES PLAYED
Forward Patrick Marleau reached a huge milestone in San Jose’s game against the Minnesota Wild yesterday, playing in his 1767th career game. This tied him with Gordie Howe for the most games played all-time. Marleau is set to break the record tomorrow against the Vegas Golden Knights.
KORENAR MAKES FIRST NHL START
Goaltender Josef Korenar made his first NHL start on Wednesday against the Anaheim Ducks. The 23-year-old stopped 23 of 27 shots in a 4-1 loss.
As for our poll question this week, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out.
QUESTION: How do you feel about San Jose’s moves at the deadline overall?

Don’t feel strongly either way: 55%
Happy with the moves: 35%
Not happy with the moves: 10%
While I think the Sharks got good value in the deals they did make, in my opinion, the scale of the deals weren’t large enough. San Jose got back minor assets but nothing that will really help them much in the coming years.
