The San Jose Sharks played four games last week and some of the team’s players have been rumoured as potential trade deadline targets for other teams. Here’s a recap of news and notes from the week.
SHARKS LOSE ALL FOUR GAMES
The Sharks lost all four of their games last week, getting swept by both the Vegas Golden Knights and St. Louis Blues. San Jose picked up just one of a possible eight points over the four games.
MARLEAU WOULD ‘SERIOUSLY CONSIDER’ TRADE
According to The Athletic’s Kevin Kurz, forward Patrick Marleau would ‘seriously consider’ being dealt to a contender at the deadline. Marleau was traded to Pittsburgh at last year’s trade deadline.
SORENSEN LIKELY TO BE DEALT
According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, Marcus Sorensen is drawing interest and could be moved by the trade deadline. Sorensen has three points in 17 games this season.
DUBNYK AVAILABLE FOR TRADE
According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, goalie Devan Dubnyk is likely to be made available for a trade as well. Dubnyk has an .899 save percentage in 16 games this season.
As for our poll questions, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out.
QUESTION: Who has been the team’s best defenseman so far this season?

Mario Ferraro: 47%
Brent Burns: 22%
Erik Karlsson: 13%
Nikolai Knyzhov: 7%
Radim Simek: 3%
Marc-Edouard Vlasic: 3%
I think the two top defenders have certainly been Burns and Ferraro. That’s not saying a ton but looking at the rest of the defenders listed, Burns and Ferraro haven’t been all that bad.
QUESTION: Should the Sharks be open to moving Tomas Hertl at the deadline?

Yes: 45%
While I’m not saying the Sharks need to deal Hertl, they should certainly be open to it, in my opinion. San Jose is pretty far off from truly competing again and given Hertl’s age and the term remaining on his contract, Doug Wilson should at least be listening to offers, though I think it’s unlikely he will.
QUESTION: Do you think the Sharks will make any major trades before the deadline?

As I stated in the article, I think it’s unlikely the Sharks end up making any big moves, even if they should. It’s likely we only see depth players moved in exchange for mid-round picks.
