Preview: Flyers @ Canucks

On opening night of the 2024-25 regular season, the Flyers (0-0-0) are in British Columbia to take on the Vancouver Canucks (0-0-1). Game time is 10:00 p.m. EDT (7 p.m. Pacific).

Friday's game will mark the NHL debuts of both 19-year-old Matvei Michkov and 18-year-old Jett Luchanko. Philly is dealing with the absence of defenseman Nick Seeler, who took a puck off his knee in the Oct. 1 exhibition game in Boston and been unable to practice since then. The Flyers expected to recall second-year young defenseman Emil Andrae on Saturday for the team's game in Calgary. Veteran Erik Johnson will step into the starting lineup for the opener in Vancouver.

On the Vancouver side, the Canucks are dealing with the injury-related absence of No. 1 goaltender Thatcher Demko. The Canucks are coming off a 6-5 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames on Wednesday. Vancouver built a 4-1 lead through the opening 20 minutes but were unable to protect it. Arturs Silovs was in net for the opener. The Canucks may opt for Kevin Lankinen against the Flyers.
