The Flyers have gone way off the board and hired Dave Hakstol, coach from the University of North Dakota, to be their next coach.
Update on Babcock...
More than a few teams have told me that they aren't too happy with the process to interview Mike Babcock. In general, teams will bring a coach in and that prospective coach will talk about their philosophy and give some idea as to what they would do with the team.
Babcock isn't going that. He is leaving it entirely up to the team to see them on him and is not offering up any of his philosophies or what he would do.
To old school hockey people, this is a problem, but in actuality Babcock is following more of a pattern associated with top business guys. Babcock is not interested in sharing his trade secrets and feel he has earned the right to demand that teams know what he brings and that's it. In business this would be acceptable..in hockey...some GMs are opposed.
