The Detroit Red Wings are probably the owners of the worst forward group. They have a few good, young, core pieces to build around in Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha, Andreas Athanasiou and Filip Zadina. There really isn't much – besides over the hill players making big money – surrounding those four. It's understandable, though, as they're coming out of what felt like a never-ending run of success and are finally embracing a rebuild.

What's not understandable is a capped out Edmonton Oilers team having only three quality forwards and finding a way to waste the best player in the league in Connor McDavid – and an elite sidekick in Leon Draisaitl – consecutive years.

With the likes of Zack Kassian, Alex Chiasson and James Neal penciled into top-6 roles next season, it feels inevitable the team wastes another year. Considering the head start the Oilers have with McDavid and Draisaitl leading the way, the fact they are *still* in the conversation for the worst forward core in the league is, quite frankly, embarrassing.

Going to have to pick the Edmonton Oilers on this one. Outside of the Oilers top 3 players, which are far superior to most other teams in the league, the rest of the group leaves much to be desired.

There are a number of players in the Oilers organization that could become top 6 forwards, such as Tyler Benson, but right now the Oilers roster is littered with 4th line forwards, and unproven prospects. The absolute drop off between high end talent and the rest of the roster makes Edmonton my pick.
