As I skim for news, I began to see a proposed lineup that seems to have caught on with multiple outlets. The Daily Faceoff put this together on 7/9:

Raymond - Larkin - Debrincat
Tarasenko - Compher - Kane
Rasmussen - Copp - Berggren
Motte - Veleno - Fischer

Chiarot - Seider
Edvinsson - Petry
Maata - Gustaffson

For those that know my preference, the top 6 seems odd to me. Two right shot wingers with a left shot center. The 2nd line is the opposite. As for the D, part of me is still hoping some sort of trade takes place I will digress for now.

Raymond - Larkin - Kane makes more sense for the top line in personal opinion. You have two wingers on their off side which gives great options on the rush. As for line two, by placing Debrincat with 2 very defensive minded forwards it could give him some cushion and alter the matchups favorably. Tarasenko still has a valuable skill set and good vision. It just seems that this is an opportunity for Raymond to get more minutes against tougher matchups while working and watching Kane on the ice.

It was interesting to see Berggren slotted on the third line at this point. The surprise of many was seeing him spend most of the year with Grand Rapids after being a part of the pro roster the season prior. Different outlets and opinions have him as an intended replacement for Sprong’s role. JB has a decent shot, and can use it while skating off of center. Sprong seemed to get his most high danger chances by parking near the faceoff dots or the half wall in similar fashion to Perron. If you watched Grand Rapid’s post season you saw Berggren collect all 3 game winners in round one.

Let me know your thoughts. Does the prevailing wisdom of Raymond and Debrincat on the top line seem like the right rollout? There are many of you who have strong feelings about how a line should be constructed and if each line serves a different function. Draw it up and let’s see how it all comes together.
